About Katerina
Katerina Belales is an award-winning news anchor and producer from Southington, CT. She graduated summa cum laude with departmental honors in journalism from Hofstra University with a degree in broadcast journalism and drama. Katerina discover her passion for broadcast television news by watching WTNH's "Good Morning Connecticut" every day while getting ready for school. Now, she's fulfilling her dreams of working in morning news by becoming the anchor and producer of WENY News' "Good Morning Twin Tiers."

Throughout her time in the Twin Tiers, Katerina has been able to cover those who have brought joy and made a difference in the community, including: American fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger, 3x Grammy Award winner Lonnie Park from Tompkins County, professional actors in Broadway National Tours, local animal shelters, healthcare professionals and more.

Katerina's work as WENY News' morning anchor and producer led to her receiving 2nd Place for Best Reporter/Anchor in a small market by the Journalists Association of New York.

Throughout her time at Hofstra University, Katerina interned for CNN's Erin Burnett OutFront during the 2020 Presidential Election, NBC's Weekend Today during the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, MSNBC, WJMS Radio, and Long Island Bride and Groom Magazine. She also worked as a multimedia reporter and producer for WRHU-FM, Hofstra's four-time Marconi Award-winning radio station and recipient of the 2021 UNESCO World Radio Day Award. At the 2021 Fair Media Council Awards, she won Best Feature Story for her piece "Wedding Venues Rally to Re-Open" alongside co-producer Lauren Brill. Most recently, she won two Press Club of Long Island Awards, receiving first place in Radio - News Story (once again for "Wedding Venues Rally to Re-Open"), as well as first place in Best College Radio Broadcast for producing and anchoring an episode of "Newsline."

Katerina also held a variety of roles as on-air talent with Hofstra Entertainment Access Television (HEAT) Network. During her senior year of college, she was Head Anchor of Hofstra's only broadcast television news show, "Hofstra Today," which has also been recognized by the Press Club of Long Island. She also was one of the three Head Anchors for the Folio Award-winning broadcast of "Hofstra Votes Live: Charting the 2020 Election," in which she discussed the most prominent issues that concerned voters leading up to the 2020 Presidential Election.
